These are the major ceramics projects with you will be responsible for creating during the trimester:

1. ​Practice pinchpot with additive and subtractive elements - 10 points

2. Hybrid animal - 20 points

3. Decorative coil vessel - 20 points

4. Slab container with lid - 20 points

5. Final project, individual design focus 10 points

 

Week One, welcome to the new trimester

• Introductions

• Sketchbooks and name tags

• Complete sketchbooks, name tags and binding

• Classroom activity for Ceramics concepts

• Ceramic terms - stages of clay, clay properties and processes

• Pinch pot construction and use of clay tools

• Additive/subtractive building processes

• Introduction to the First Pinch pot assignment (see page on Pinchpots for the assignment links)

• Graded sketches due.

 

Week 2-3

• Learn about and construct pinch pots

• Construct and complete hybrid animal Pinch Pot Sculpture

 

Week 4-5

• Coil project introduction 

• Coil Demonstration

• Coil sketches due 

• 5 Work days for the coil vessel

 

• Introduction to glazing

 

Week 6-7

• Introduction to slab construction

• Slab sketches due

• Slab container with lid Construction

 

Begin geting work fired and glazed
